The first thing I heard this morning was the sound of a good rain.
The next was Persephone, my 15-year-old cat, asking to get inside away from the effects of that good rain. After listening to the drip-drip-drip of the coffee pot, I sat down to enjoy a cup of Bustelo and listen to the news before I began my day of academic pursuit.
I turned on the television and heard this. Consequently, the first thing I said this morning consists of two words I’ll not publish until I write the novel which more than several people wish I would not pen.
I do not distribute this piece to change anyone’s mind. Nor do I put it out in cyberspace to elicit debate. I write it because it made me furious and when I am this mad, I’d better write or Persephone will have hell to pay.
Mitt Romney is the perfect example of an exclusionary, discriminatory philosophy that has divided our country to the brink of self-destruction. For over eight years, I have publicly stated and written that what we needed to fear the most was our own disdain for one another in America. Point proven. His true colors shine during this performance; and nothing he or any of his surrogates say can edit the film.
Here is an excerpt from the script his advisers now wish he had canned:
“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what,” Romney says in one clip. “There are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent on government, who believe that, that they are victims, who believe that government has the responsibility to care for them. Who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing.”
How dare you.
Adding to his argument about entitlement, Romney said his “job is not to worry about those people.”
So what are you going to do with that 47 percent? Deport us with the rest of the “Mexicans”, as he so eloquently referred to the Latino population in another portion of the video?
“I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives,” he added. “What I have to do is convince the 5 percent to 10 percent in the center that are independents, that are thoughtful.”
Let me tell you something Mitt Romney: I would turn tricks at Jones Crossroads before I would accept a damn dime from you. I would eat dirt before I would ask you for help.
And you can take that back to your yacht and smoke it.
